Dr Duncan McLauchlan

Dr McLauchlan is a neurologist with an interest in the behavioural changes in HD. He trained in medicine at the University of Bristol, before specialist training in neurology in South Wales: holding a WCAT academic training post as a specialist registrar, before being appointed to a Consultant post in Swansea. In 2024 he moved to University Hospital of Wales and his academic work is currently supported by Health and Care Research Wales. HIs academic interests lie in computational psychiatry, and epidemiology, using propensity scoring and modelling of behaviour on cognitive tasks to determine the mechanisms underlying behavioural change in HD and treatment efficacy. Dr McLauchlan has been appointed to the SBAC grant reviewing body of the European Huntington’s Network, and as of 2024 is the Chair. His work on the mechanisms underlying apathy in HD has been competitively selected for platform presentations at the EHDN plenary meeting and he has subsequently been an invited speaker at multiple international meetings. At medical school he achieved distinctions in multiple modules, gained a BSc in physiology, and won medical student prizes at both university (Dorothy Hodgkin prize in Anatomy) and national level (Physiological Society bursary).
